International Business Events

Each year the Memphis in May International Festival hosts business events throughout the city focusing on the economic impact and global logistics of each honored country. Below are the 2009 events held to recognize the Republic of Chile.

 

Economic Club Dinner

Established to promote the study and discussion of economic, political and social issues, the Economic Club supports Memphis in May International Festival’s salute to Chile by presenting Ambassador Juan Gabriel Valdes. Mr. Valdes has enjoyed a long and distinguished political, diplomatic and academic career.  He has served his country as Ambassador to Argentina, as Chile's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Vice-Minister for International Economic Affairs in the Chilean Foreign Ministry.  He currently serves as the Director of the Chile Project for the Presidency of Chile.

Doing Business in Chile Seminar was designed to give regional companies the tools to work with U.S. Customs and Customs house brokers to successfully import and export goods and conduct business in the 2009 honored country. Topics included payment processes and sourcing resources for import and export goods.  Co-sponsored by The International Trade Center and the Greater Memphis Chamber. 

 

International Council Luncheon

Approximately 80 key local international trade executives, as well as local government leaders of both the City of Memphis and Shelby County attended this annual meeting.  Senior U.S. Commercial Service Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Chile, Mitch Larsen discussed current developments and economic opportunities in Chile.

The third annual conference presented by the Memphis World Trade Club brought together distribution and logistics specialists from around the globe to exchange new ideas and best practices in the field of global logistics; air, rail, port and trucking. The keynote speaker on May 12th from the 2009 Memphis in May honored country Chile spoke on the unique challenges and solutions in the area of global logistics from a Chilean perspective.
