"Tunisian Architecture Through the Ages”
Featuring Tunisian Architect Taoufik EL EUCH
This lecture series brings the architecture of the world to Memphis. Each year, a noted architect from the honored country is the guest speaker at the American Institute of Architect’s professional meeting.
Noted Tunisian architect Mr. Taoufik EL EUCH was the featured speaker in May of 2010 for a retrospective of Tunisian architecture. Mr. El Euch is a renowned Tunisian architect with extensive experience specializing in tourist architecture. Specifically in the “Maghreb” region (countries of Northern Africa), one can see his fascinating structures now utilized as office buildings, residential complexes, commercial centers, cultural complexes, universities, government buildings, and tourist resorts and clubs.

The Jews of Tunisia: Past, Present and Future
International lecture by speaker Rabbi Solomon Robert Ichay. Born in Tunisia, Rabbi Ichay is Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation Or Ve'Shalom, a Sephardic synagogue in Atlanta, Georgia. Educated in London, he came to Atlanta in 1969 and served as spiritual leader of the congregation for more than 35 years. Over the years, Rabbi Ichay has led delegations from Atlanta to his native Tunisia.

This past May, Memphians had the unique
opportunity to participate in bridging the gaps between culture and
religion.
Doctor Mohamed Fantar, Senator of the Tunisian Republic and Titular
of Tunisian
President Ben Ali's Chair for the Dialogue of Civilizations and
Religions, held a program at the respected Bridges, Inc., supporting organization
of Bridge Builders and other community-strengthening programs.
A published author and Doctor of
Ancient History and Archeology, the Senator specializes in western
Semitic
languages and Middle Eastern civilizations. His impressive resume
outlines his
accomplishments as the 2005 recipient of the Presidential Human Rights
Prize of
the Tunisian Republic, former General Director of the National Institute
of
Archeology and Art of Tunis, and Director of the Center of Punic and
Phoenician
Studies. Dr. Fantar's lecture was a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity gain insight into the development of
religion and
culture and how we as a world can overcome the barriers that divide us.
