As part of the 2010 Salute to Tunisia, Memphis in May International Festival presented Tunisia: Rhythm of the Sands at The Orpheum Theatre during International Week. Featuring rhythms of the Berbers, Bedouin, and more, Walid Gharbi revives the rich traditions of Tunisia, keeping Tunisian heritage alive through the arts. Also performing was the Sybel Ballet Theatre with a show that incorporates contemporary dance and new technologies, presenting a new perception of dance and a message of a united world where diverse cultures coexist. This entertaining performance was a multi-disciplinary production that combined music, song, dance, and theater to showcase the folkloric traditions of Tunisia.
Memphis in May's theatre performances are specifically designed to share the culture of the honored country with students through music, song, and dance - live. The performances are an excellent complement to any of the Memphis in May classroom programs or competitions and are offered FREE of charge to schools.
