Arriving on the scene in the mid-2010s with her braggadocious bars and effortless swag, Memphis’ Jucee Froot is poised to be the city’s next big hip-hop star. Like Gangsta Boo and La Chat before her, Jucee Froot is proving yet again that the ladies of Memphis can be just as tough and uncompromising as their male counterparts. Born Terrica Alexander, Jucee Froot first gained attention in the local underground scene with a series of viral freestyles and a prolific streak of mixtapes. In 2020, she leveraged this street-level popularity into a deal with Atlantic Records and swiftly released her major-label debut Black Sheep, which maintains the take-no-prisoners style of her earlier mixtapes. Her mainstream breakthrough came in 2020 when her track “Danger” became a viral hit after being featured on the all-female film soundtrack for Birds of Prey. Soon after, she continued to garner widespread attention by writing the theme song for the show P-Valley called “Down In The Valley” and landing a song on the Insecure soundtrack with “Eat Itself.”
