While Stone Temple Pilots were undoubtedly part of grunge rock’s vanguard in the 1990s, their sound transcended the boundaries of the genre by embracing elements of classic rock, psychedelia, and even pop. This sonic versatility helped the band to become one of the most successful acts of their era and a mainstay on MTV and rock radio. In fact, few artists in any genre would match their impressive string of hits, which included enduring classics like “Plush,” “Creep,” “Vasoline,” and “Interstate Love Song.” When the band’s talented but troubled lead singer Scott Weiland left the band in 2013, Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington briefly took over the reigns. Today, the band is fronted by Jeff Gutt, who has helped to lead the band into new and exciting directions while retaining the magic that made the band so special in the first place.
