2022 WCBCC TEAM APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN
MEMPHIS, TN, November 24, 2021 – Memphis in May officials have announced that Team Applications are now open to compete in the 2022 World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, the most prestigious barbecue cooking contest on the planet. The 44th edition of the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest will be held May 11-14, 2022, at the Memphis Fairgrounds.
The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, the largest pork barbecue contest in the world, features the championship categories of Whole Hog, Rib, and Shoulder, plus the Patio Porkers, an amateur division for those who want to test their skills before competing with the professionals. The 2022 contest promises to be fiercely competitive, as teams vie for the World Championship crown, and the largest prize purse in the event’s history totaling over $145,000 in prize money.
Team spaces fill up quickly with legendary pitmasters and competition cooking teams from across the country and around the world. The deadline to apply is February 11, 2022.
Over 350 official Memphis in May-trained and certified judges will roll up their sleeves to determine the best of the pit in 2022, but it’s fingers only – no knife and fork at the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. Primary sponsors include Cattlemen’s Barbecue Sauce, Kingsford, and Budweiser.
