Runners from 28 states and 4 foreign countries (and counting) will launch from Beale Street and run the river Saturday May 28th on Memorial Day Weekend.
Downtown and the Mississippi Riverfront will again be the backdrop for a Memphis in May event as runners take to the streets for the 6th edition of the Great American River Run sponsored by AutoZone on Saturday May 28, 2022 part of the Memphis in May International Festival. A field of elite competition athletes competed in the 2021 Great American River Run Half-marathon and organizers are expecting a strong showing again this year with over $8,500 in cash prizes up for grabs with extra prize money added for the top finishers in both the 10K and 5K runs.
The Great American River Run offers something for runners at any level with a Half-marathon, a 10K and for fun runnersa 5K. The run is known for it’s popular post-race party featuring a massive post -race feast, beverages and beer. The run starts and finishes on historic Beale Street, guides runners through downtown Memphis, past Memphis attractions and along the majestic Mississippi River. Start times are 7 AM for the Half-marathon, 7:40 AM 10K and 7:55 AM for the 5K.
Runners will blast off with a fireworks start following a Porsche lead car from Gossett Porsche and will enjoy the sites and sounds of on-course entertainment at water stations along run including Blind Mississippi Morris, DJMadEFX, belly dancers from Pyramid Dance Company, HOUSE in the MIDSOUTH featuring the GOODLife DJ’s, The Memphis Drum Tribe and more.
