While being born into reggae royalty certainly hasn’t been a hindrance to Ziggy Marley’s career, nobody would have blamed him if he had buckled under the immense pressure that comes with being the eldest son of Bob and Rita Marley. Thankfully, the polar opposite has proven true, as Marley has deftly filled the void left by his father’s untimely death in 1981. As the leader of the Melody Makers and later as a solo artist, Ziggy Marley has carried on his family’s legacy of musical brilliance and social consciousness into the 21st century and carved out his own legacy as a reggae icon along the way. An eight-time Grammy Award winner and a Daytime Emmy Award recipient, Marley is also the owner of the independent record label Tuff Gong Worldwide.
